Description

About Impact

Impact is the digital destination for the next generation of changemakers. Our mission is to inspire and empower through accessible information, stories, and resources. Our audience of millions of young people care deeply – they believe in righting the wrongs from their past generations by initiating self-learning, taking action for social causes, supporting historically marginalized communities, and shifting our culture for the better.

As one of the highest engaged platforms on IG (compared to traditional media platforms like NYTimes, WashingtonPost, NowThis, etc.), Impact Digital’s two main platforms, Impact & Environment, reach over 40M+ people each month. Our brand partners include value-driven companies like Hinge, Beyond Meat, and KEEN, as well as non-profit organizations like Planned Parenthood, Climate Power, and the Human Rights Campaign.

Our Impact

The Impact team has fundraised $1.7M+ for social causes and organizations like the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Ukrainian Refugees, and COVID-19 relief. With many of our content pieces, we aim to provide our readers with action items, directing hundreds of thousands of petition signatures to important causes such as Act for Antonio, Abortion Access, Justice for George Floyd, and many more.

Awards & Nominations: Shorty Impact Awards Winner, Shorty Impact Awards Audience Honor, Anthem Awards Winner, Forbes30U30, Webby Awards Nominee, Webby Awards Honoree.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Impact Digital Group is looking for a Freelance Writer focused primarily on political content, particularly related to the upcoming election. This position is ideal for anyone who deeply cares about the intersection of politics, social issues, and culture, with a particular focus on Gen Z. You will be working closely with the editorial team to ideate and write content that aligns with our mission and engages our audience in meaningful ways.

You Will:

  • Pitch, ideate, and execute content on reproductive, economic, and related news that connects with our audience, along with incorporating trending cultural topics into political content.
  • Write 5-8 content pieces per week, with each “piece” taking multiple content forms (articles, in-feed posts, story sets, newsletter inclusions). This will comprise a mix of assignments and pitches.
  • Have the ability to complete deliverables by the end of the business day.
  • Engage with our audience through thoughtful and impactful writing that encourages awareness and participation in key social issues.

The Ideal Candidate Has:

  • 2-5+ years of experience in professional writing, with a portfolio showcasing content focused on social and political issues.
  • Strong ability to analyze complex political scenarios and provide clear, insightful commentary.
  • Familiarity with key political institutions, processes, and current events.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to fast-changing political developments and deliver timely, relevant content.
  • Proficiency in writing accessible, engaging social media copy that resonates with a Gen Z audience.
  • Strong editorial skills, including the ability to edit and refine content for clarity, coherence, and impact.
  • Experience with researching nuanced topics and finding reputable sources.

You’re a Great Fit If:

  • You have a passion for storytelling and a knack for creating engaging political content that resonates with young audiences.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and can adapt to changing priorities.
  • You have excellent communication skills and can collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
  • You are skilled at taking directives and running with them, demonstrating initiative and creativity in your work.

We’re a Great Fit If:

  • We’re incredibly committed to diversity. As a platform that cares about advancing social progress, we understand that it’s vital to center those who have these lived experiences. Our team is predominantly POC, Women + Nonbinary, and LGBTQIA, shattering the norms for media companies across the board.
  • We care deeply but still have fun. We choose to operate and act with optimism and joy. We remain hopeful and treat each other with care and kindness. It’s the only way we can sustain the work we do.
  • We’re committed to growing personally. Our work is based on the premise that people, systems, and ideas can grow. Within our team, we all aim to grow, whether that be our skills, perspectives, mindsets, or relationships.
