Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company (‘Versant’) comprised of most of NBCUniversal’s cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
NBC News Digital is looking for a Weekend Commerce Editor to support NBC Select’s affiliate commerce coverage on Saturdays and Sundays. Select is NBC News’ shopping destination dedicated to helping readers make smart, informed purchase decisions through expert-sourced, data-driven reporting.
This associate-level editor will be responsible for editing and publishing assigned shopping content during the weekend, ensuring it meets NBC Select’s standards for clarity, accuracy, voice and search optimization. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented editor with strong news judgment, solid grasp of service journalism and a passion for helping readers navigate what’s worth buying.
This is a role based in New York, with the schedule of Saturday through Wednesday or Friday through Tuesday, depending on team needs. Weekend availability is required.
Responsibilities
- Edit assigned shopping stories for structure, clarity, grammar, style, and voice, adhering to AP style and Select’s editorial standards.
- Publish assigned content in the CMS and format articles with attention to SEO, affiliate linking, product images, and mobile readability.
- Optimize content using commerce best practices, including affiliate integration and keyword targeting.
- Update evergreen stories and sales roundups with fresh information, ensuring accuracy and relevance during breaking retail moments.
- Collaborate with weekday editors on handoffs of live content and ongoing coverage needs.
- Participate in team meetings as needed and communicate with editors across platforms including Slack and email.

Qualifications
- At least 4 years of editing or writing experience at a digital publication, preferably with a focus on commerce, lifestyle, or consumer service journalism.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
Skills
- Excellent editing and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
- Solid understanding of affiliate marketing or a strong interest in learning the mechanics of commerce journalism.
- Familiarity with CMS tools and web publishing workflows.
- Working knowledge of SEO and comfort incorporating affiliate links into stories.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently on weekends.
- Familiarity with affiliate platforms such as Skimlinks, Rakuten, Amazon Associates, or Impact is a plus.
