Job Description

BryceTech is seeking a Writer/Editor to support NASA’s Technology Transfer Program. NASA’s Technology Transfer program is directed to “provide for the widest practicable and appropriate dissemination of information concerning its activities and the results thereof.” Its mission is to identify and protect NASA’s intellectual property with commercial potential and transfer those technologies through patent licensing agreements, software usage agreements, and related technology transfer partnerships with entrepreneurs, companies, universities, non-profits, business incubators and innovation ecosystems, and state and local governments. The technologies developed for NASA’s aeronautics, science, exploration, and technology development missions have alternative uses in many industries that create jobs, promote economic development, create technological advantages for United States (U.S.) companies, and improve life here on Earth.

The candidate will document and publicize technology successes that advance the maturity and/or commercialization readiness level of NASA inventions in the NASA Spinoff database, which serves as the publication of record for documenting successful examples of commercialized NASA technology and reporting on the technical details of Spinoffs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assigns technical researchers/writers to gather Spinoff leads, interviews companies and NASA experts, performs research, and translates complex scientific and technical information into an accurate, readable abstract of approximately 300-500 words that will document each Spinoff for the historical record.
  • Ensures that a minimum of 50 new Spinoffs are added to the database each year.
  • Annually writes, edits, and publishes at least 40-50 web features covering companies selling commercialized NASA technology, as an ancillary product to new database entries.
  • Creates web features drawn from database content including expansions and elaborations such as quotes from companies and NASA subject matter experts, additional imagery, and compelling narratives that make the details of the technology and its history more accessible and interesting to a wide audience. Ensures a mix of article types, with some articles focusing on a single company and product and other articles incorporating multiple companies and products under a unifying theme or trend.
  • Works with NASA field centers, engages industry, conducts Internet searches, exploits program data, and uses other methods to obtain story leads, then evaluates the leads to determine appropriateness for publication.
  • Researches, writes, and/or develops up to twelve presentations, reports, articles, posters, flyers, brochures, and other promotional materials that showcase NASA technologies.
  • Stores content, research documents, imagery, and correspondence related to each Spinoff article for future retrieval purposes.
  • Create ancillary products such as presentations and press releases associated with spinoffs
  • Identifies graphics to accompany stories and works with graphic designer on layouts for Spinoffs and related documents
  • Provides expertise, information, images, data, and other resources to accommodate specific questions from NASA and (when approved by NASA) the news media.

Qualifications

Education & Experience: 

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree with 10 years of experience. 
  • Familiarity with federal technology transfer programs (preferred)
  • Expertise in writing technical information for broad audiences
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written/verbal communication skills
  • Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders to gather information
  • Strong attention to detail, proven ability to deliver on time, and ability to track multiple simultaneous projects with evolving requirements.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of tools (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • 10+ years relevant work experience
  • U.S. Citizen
