At the Sylvester Broome Empowerment Village, our mission is to cultivate leadership capacity. We offer free year-round programming to youth ages 5-17 in the Chicago, IL area. Our programs in Academics, Athletics, and the Arts are taught by local professionals who dedicate their time to reinvesting their skills and knowledge and giving back to the young people. By developing and investing in youth, we desire to transform Chicago into a just and equitable city. Our doors are open to everyone! Covering 10 different areas, we offer many different programs that youth can choose from. The 10 areas include: MUSIC | ART | MEDIA | HEALTH & WELLNESS | SPORTS | PERFORMING ARTS EDUCATION | TEEN CLUB | SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY. Pay for this position will be based on experience. Overview: We are seeking a passionate and skilled Music Production and Songwriting Instructor to join our team and lead students in exploring the creative process of producing, writing, and recording music. This position requires expertise in music production software, songwriting techniques, and recording technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music theory, composition, and a knack for inspiring young minds to express themselves through music. Responsibilities: Design and deliver engaging lesson plans that cover music production, songwriting, and recording techniques for middle school and high school students. Teach students how to use music production software such as ProTools, Logic Pro, or FL Studio to create and arrange music tracks. Guide students through the songwriting process, including lyric writing, melody development, chord progressions, and song structure. Demonstrate recording techniques and oversee student recording sessions in a studio environment. Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to help students improve their musical skills and develop their own unique style. Organize and coordinate student performances, showcases, or recording projects to showcase their work and build confidence. Stay updated on industry trends, technology advancements, and best practices in music production and songwriting to continually enhance the curriculum. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Production, Audio Engineering, or related field (preferred). Proven experience working with music production software and recording equipment. Strong musical proficiency with the ability to teach music theory, composition, and arrangement. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels. Previous experience teaching music or working with youth in an educational setting is highly desirable. Passion for music education and a dedication to fostering creativity and self-expression in students.
