Job Description

Description

What We Are Looking For:

We are currently looking for a Games Writer to join us to work within the narrative team to craft best-in-class stories, develop unique characters, and collaborate on the design of our current project.

Requirements

What We Will Do Together:

  • Work with the Narrative Director to maintain and iterate upon the game’s narrative tone, voice, theme, and style of the game.
  • Working with the wider design team to maintain and iterate upon the narrative and dialogue for the game – both in-game lines and iterating upon cutscene scripts, to adhere to and/or adapt to project scope, and stakeholder feedback, and to gel with existing design frameworks.
  • Maintain and iterate upon characters, ensuring backstories, personalities, vocabulary, and tones are consistent with the project’s narrative vision.
  • Verifying that the game’s narrative satisfies the gameplay’s requirements and suggesting alternative iterations where appropriate.
  • Writing and revising all in-game dialogue and player-facing text to best suit gameplay needs. • Iteration of cutscene scripts as required.
  • Proven experience working within the gaming industry, having worked on at least several published commercial games.
  • Knowledge of narrative and scriptwriting tools (Fade In, Final Draft, Trelby, Ink, Twine, Articy:Draft etc.)

What You Will Bring:

  • You have a passion for game narrative and writing.
  • You’ve gained demonstrable experience as a game writer or narrative designer.
  • You possess exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • You have a desire to grow and improve, not only as a writer, but also as a game developer.
  • You hold a bachelor’s degree (or have equivalent experience) in Game Design, Creative Writing, English, or other related discipline.
  • Experience of working with Unreal Engine is a plus.

Benefits

Interested … a bit about Escape Velocity:

Escape Velocity is a team of passionate, talented developers working at a studio that offers excellent benefits and what we believe is a fantastic project. But that doesn’t make us unique. What does make us special? We value the time, energy, and talent of our players and our colleagues. We want every hour spent developing and playing our games to be an incredibly rewarding and worthwhile use of your time. To that end, we are fully remote and support team members nearly anywhere in the world.  We prioritize honesty, even when that means sharing bad news. We strive to give everyone autonomy so they can determine how best to work and play; and we care more about what you bring to the game and studio than how many hours you’re clocking. We believe in constant improvement across all areas – from the game itself to our production design – and are constantly re-evaluating how we spend our time to ensure that we’re not wasting yours and we’re all always working on the most important things. Finally (and perhaps most importantly) we’re dedicated to building a culture of play, which not only makes us better game makers, but also strengthens the bonds between us all.
