Job Description

Project Length: This is a temporary position with an expected duration of 1-3 months

Project Hours: Hours will vary weekly

Location: New York City, NY Preferred

The expected compensation for this contract is $65-110/hr. The exact pay rate will vary depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to skills, experience, and location.

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior ESG Report Writer to do contract work. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of writing and editing ESG reports for Fortune 500 corporations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and write comprehensive ESG reports for Fortune 500 corporations
  • Contribute to planning report content and design process; offer approaches to developing content in line with client needs and goals
  • Gather information from disparate sources (client drafts, press releases, specialized background documents, in-person interviews or interview transcripts, others) and synthesize/translate that information into clear and succinct paragraphs that communicate our client’s perspective on its own activities. Also recognize and separate the most relevant information.
  • Edit and review reports written by other team members to ensure accuracy and compliance with industry standards
  • Work alongside Lead Content Strategist to clarify key messages and write report content.
  • Review and transform diverse pieces of content into cohesive narrative that aligns with client needs, style/branding guidelines and external ESG reporting requirements
  • Make recommendations on how to best convey complex information clearly and concisely for various audiences and formats (narrative, leadership letters, case studies, infographics etc.)
  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather and analyze data for the reports
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends and developments in ESG/CSR/sustainability reporting
  • Collaborate with other departments and team members to ensure the reports align with company goals and objectives

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience writing and editing ESG/CSR/sustainability reports for Fortune 500 corporations
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Effective interview skills and ability to interact with external stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong analytical and research abilities
  • Strong attention to details and ability to copy edit own/other’s work
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices for ESG/CSR/sustainability reporting
  • Familiarity with ESG report topics (climate change, biodiversity, diversity & inclusion, corporate governance, supply chain, etc.)
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. Environmental Science, Business Administration, Communications) preferred, but not required
  • Experience with Workiva for drafting and editing may be preferred on some assignments, but can be taught
