Job Description

CNBC’s commerce team is looking to hire a talented and experienced senior editor to further develop its financial coverage for a broad consumer audience under the NYC-based CNBC Select brand. CNBC Select is a consumer-friendly vertical of CNBC devoted to providing rigorous reviews and advice on personal finance products so our readers can make informed decisions about the products they choose and use every day. The senior editor will be responsible for executing strategy and overseeing the day-to-day content production and optimization on a variety of topics including credit cards, personal loans, insurance products, mortgages, small business products and other personal finance products. They will also manage a growing team of personal finance journalists. Professional experience strategizing, ideating, writing and editing for a personal finance commerce site with a focus on service journalism is a must. You will be responsible for the edit calendar, creating methodologies for reviewing products and interpreting analytics into actionable strategies and tactics that benefit readers and help meet business goals. You will collaborate with other stakeholders and teams, including SEO, analytics, audience development and partnerships. Experience managing a team is also a must. The ideal candidate is a strong leader, journalist and project manager with an eye for both analytics and detail, strong organizational skills and a knack for making complex subjects interesting and relatable. Job Duties: Ideate, approve and assign personal finance content for CNBC Select Guide editors and reporters in translating relevant data, research and expert guidance into clear, concise and compelling content. Help create and approve data-based methodologies for reviewing products. Use analytics and data to execute actionable strategies and tactics. Direct, oversee and finalize updates to evergreen content according to the edit calendar and deadlines. Work with editors to sharpen focus, headlines, angles, SEO and product choice across site and on supporting platforms. Ensure the accuracy and standards of Select’s journalism across the site and our coverage. Work with compliance and with legal and standards as needed. Lead editorial meetings and contribute to analytics and strategy meetings. Oversee editorial calendar. Optimize new and existing posts based on affiliate partnerships and commerce opportunities. Manage and top edit a growing team of personal finance journalists. Qualifications: At least 7 years editorial experience. At least 5 years editing commerce content. At least 5 years in the personal finance space. At least 3 years managing a team. Proven and thorough understanding of personal finance products. Proven journalism skills and experience. Proven experience with data, analytics and SEO. Work experience with a growing brand a plus. Work experience for a major news brand a plus. Desired Characteristics: Strong management and leadership skills. Strong understanding journalism best practices primary sources and experts to inform fact-based, grounded consumer advice. Attention to detail. Ability to make quick decisions. Ability to manage many different tasks at once. Excellent communication skills and ability to work across multiple teams. Proven and strong knowledge of personal finance products and best practices. Knowledge of financial affiliate marketing platforms. Firm grasp of AP Style: spelling, grammar and punctuation. Media training and experience as an expert on live television a plus.
