Job Description

OVERVIEW

The Senior Editor will work with the History and Library Directorate (HLD) at the Pentagon, to provide support to the government client and a team of analysts/historians to review and edit HLD correspondence and documents for clarity, format, consistency, and compliance with DoD, WHS, and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidance and requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform full editorial dutiesin connection with the creation and review of HLD manuscripts
  • Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts(SMEs) on review and policy determinations
  • Review draft correspondence, including:
  • o Editing the initial draft and
  • o Validating and ensuring quality control over all aspects of the correspondence and attached documents
  • Ensure accurate records through all stages of the editing process
  • Verify redactions and exemptions to ensure proper protection of classified information as identified by SMEs
  • Coordinate with government leads for workflow management and case timelines
  • Assist with updating correspondence guidelines, SOPs, and trainings as necessary
  • Assist with correspondence and document preparation for special projects
  • Assist with formal publishing planning and ultimate processing and publishing for HLD manuscripts

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Minimum of four years of editorial and writing experience
  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • Ability to communicate effectively – both orally and in writing
  • Excellent customer service skills to adequately handle the needs of government program managers and their SMEs
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with multiple offices within OSD and WHS
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft SharePoint, Adobe Acrobat
  • Detail-oriented with ability to work in a high-pressure environment handling sensitive and classified information while meeting multiple deadlines
