Job Description

gotham is looking for a Senior Copywriter to join our vibrant creative team as we expand into the industry’s newest global boutique agency. In this role, you’ll grow your already sharp writing skills, translating complex briefs into a simple, witty headline one day and taking a stab at an emotional brand manifesto the next. We’re looking for a self-motivated and ambitious conceptual thinker who sees the creative opportunity in every brief, wants to push boundaries, and has an eye for detail and a writing voice that can flex for a variety of audiences. Lastly, your love for culture is evident in your approach and style. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves a challenge, is current on industry trends, wants to grow in their versatility and make impactful, award-winning work. This is a hybrid in-office and work-from-home role, based in New York City. What you’ll do: Collaborate with Art Directors, Strategists and Designers to take a brief and develop thoughtful, conceptual, integrated campaigns inclusive of social, film/broadcast and print for a lineup of brands, including our largest client, Maybelline New York. Contribute to new business pitches and initiatives. Carry all projects from initial creative concept through execution and release. Verbally present ideas, layouts, scripts, and storyboards to creative and account leads. Lightly lead a small team of junior talent when necessary. Gain valuable, on-set production experience with top-caliber talent. What we’re looking for: A solid book that shows produced work with an evolving and clear point of view, and flexes in tone of voice, media/platforms and style. 5+ years of copywriting experience, preferably with well-known, consumer facing brands. Strong working knowledge of industry and cultural trends and competitors. An authentic interest in the craft of writing, storytelling and the medium of advertising. Strong storytelling and presentation skills versus reading off of a slide. A strong bias towards details but the ability to think big picture. A passion for the arts and culture and a forward-thinking mindset; you see a barrier and want to break it. An autonomous self-starter who is comfortable with tight and loose timelines and turnaround. A proactive and collaborative approach; you love working with people and people love working with you. With roots in CPG and beauty, we’re used to transformation and are charting it with an independent spirit, backed by two of the industry’s most powerful networks: McCann WorldGroup and IPG. The starting salary range is $80,000 to $100,000. Where an employee or prospective employee is paid within this range will depend on, among other factors, actual ranges for current/former employees in the subject position; the associated discipline; market considerations; budgetary considerations; tenure and standing with the company (applicable to current employees); as well as the employee’s/applicant’s background, pertinent experience, and qualifications.
