About The Role

To commission, edit and publish Telegraph Travel’s award-winning digital content, primarily our industry-leading hotel reviews and guides. Working as part of a small team within the wider department; overseeing the work of Content Editors as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • To manage the production, editing and publishing of evergreen digital hotel review and guide pages, new and updated, setting a high standard of quality.
  • To commission digital hotel review and guide pages, maintaining strong relationships with our network of expert writers.
  • To ensure the hotels team meets its publishing targets.
  • To update and improve existing evergreen content, and manage the planning of this.
  • To generate ideas for both “live” and utility content on a regular basis that will enable Travel to meet its publishing targets.
  • To support and deputise for the Senior Commissioning Editor, Hotels as required.
  • To find news ways/ideas to drive engagement with travel content, with a particular focus on subscriptions.
  • To maintain a high knowledge of the hotels industry and new openings

Essential skills

  • Experience editing and publishing copy independently, to a high standard.
  • Experience approving appropriate imagery.
  • Experience working with a range of writers and contributors, liaising with them and managing their copy.
  • A background in travel journalism.
  • Able to work in a fast-moving environment, publishing at speed and to deadline.
  • Able to spot legal issues (particularly defamation) and act appropriately.
  • Able to work collaboratively with a team.
  • An understanding of what our audience wants to read.

Desirable skills

  • An editorial background in hotels specifically.
  • Experience overseeing/managing the work of junior colleagues.
