Salary: $60,000 – $65,000

We are looking for a Photo Editor to join our growing US newsroom team working across our top US brands including Mirror US, Express US and Irish Star. Reporting to the Deputy Picture Editor, you will support and help drive our use of engaging images on all platforms and across Reach brands.

Reach Plc is the UK’s largest commercial news publisher. We’re home to more than 130 trusted brands, from national titles like the Mirror, Express, Daily Record and Daily Star, to local brands like MyLondon, BelfastLive and the Manchester Evening News.

Since the start of 2023, we have been building out our US operation, headquartered at 200 Liberty St, New York. We’ve launched three standalone brands in the Mirror US, Express US and the Irish Star, covering news, sport, entertainment, politics and lifestyle – all targeted at US audiences.

Job Description

You will assist the Deputy Picture Editor, sourcing and editing the relevant images for News, Showbiz and Features stories, whilst also liaising with photo agencies to secure images.

You will help maintain clear brand identities, keeping images relevant to the reader and in line with what is requested by editors and photo editors. You will also be responsible for checking images are credited correctly.

Shift Patterns

This is an office based role working from our New York office, we are therefore open to candidates based in or commutable to New York.

Shifts are done on a rolling rota basis, and rotas should be updated approximately 1 month in advance. Shifts for this position will be between the hours of 7:00am – 11:00pm ET.

However, this is subject to change as a result of current news affairs and major events, so we therefore require a level of flexibility in this role. Any shifts ending after 9:00pm ET will have the flexibility to be completed remotely.

Weekend shifts are also required due to the nature of the role, however you will receive days back in lieu as a result.

Qualifications

You have a good understanding of image usage rights when obtaining images from social media and the internet with a sound knowledge of Photoshop. You have a great eye for detail, experience in the photo industry – photo agencies, PR’s and photographers, combined with a keen interest in current affairs.

You are able to identify photos that have impact and add value to a story, the ability to work to tight deadlines with a calm and professional approach along with an understanding of copyright, content licensing laws and IP rights associated with digital assets.
