What Does a Medical Editor Do?

The Medical Editor is responsible for a range of editorial services, including medical editing, copyediting, proofreading and claim (fact) checking of digital and print pharmaceutical advertising materials, internal and external presentations and corporate communications. A Medical Editor understands the project lifecycle of pharmaceutical advertising tactics and promotes editorial consistency and FDA compliance during this cycle through the ownership of an assigned brand(s).

The Medical Editor serves as a brand’s main editorial voice and demonstrates how to successfully complete editing, claim checking and submission tasks for a variety of clients and brands. They also play an integral role in creating, maintaining and communicating brand style guidelines.

Responsibilities Includes

  • Edits for language clarity and consistency, brand and messaging accuracy, correct balance, appropriate tone, overall cohesiveness, flow, organization, style, grammar, spelling, typographical errors, formatting and accurate referencing.
  • Claim checks materials to ensure comprehensive and accurate support for claims; provides submission support as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with internal teams to prepare promotional materials including mobile apps, iPad detail aids, print sales aids, websites, videos, emails, speaker decks and other digital media for medical/regulatory submissions.
  • Manages and resources numerous brand tasks with competing deadlines, coordinating coverage with other Editorial team members and Resourcing.
  • Represents the Editorial department at internal kickoffs and status meetings.
  • Creates and maintains key documents, such as brand style guides and process documents.
  • Provides support for the onboarding and training of new Medical Editors as needed.
  • Alerts senior team members and Editorial management to project and task concerns, and works closely with management and other team members to address these issues as they arise.

Qualifications

What Are We Looking For?

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education plus professional experience) required; MS degree also accepted.

  • 3+ years of editing experience in the healthcare and/or pharmaceutical industry required. At least 1 year of experience in the advertising and/or marketing industry preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of current AMA style; experience with medical/regulatory/legal reviews and familiarity with FDA requirements for drug promotion preferred.

  • Proactive, independent and able to perform literature searches and understand journal articles/medically related literature.

  • Extremely detail oriented, thorough and accurate.

  • Digitally savvy with excellent verbal, written, organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven experience managing rapidly shifting priorities and deadlines in high-pressure situations.

  • Experienced in Adobe Acrobat Professional, Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint.

EVERSANA is committed to providing competitive salaries and benefits for all employees. The anticipated base salary range for this position is $56,000 to $96,000 and is not applicable to locations outside of the U.S. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. Compensation will be determined based on relevant experience, other job-related qualifications/skills, and geographic location (to account for comparative cost of living). EVERSANA reserves the right to modify this base salary range at any time.
