Position Summary: 

The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting the day-to-day communications, partnership collaboration, and execution of marketing plans and campaigns for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, a program administered by Vibrant Emotional Health and funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). 

Reporting to the Manager of Marketing and Communications, this person will support the execution of marketing and communications messaging and projects in support of 988 Lifeline’s grant goals and communications strategies. This individual will also help create public education messaging, tools, and campaigns in support of suicide prevention and disaster mental health, support the tactical implementation of campaigns to increase public awareness of resources beyond the 988 Lifeline and help create tools for crisis centers and stakeholders to utilize in raising awareness of crisis centers’ work with the 988 Lifeline in their communities as well as the work of crisis centers and the ways the public can support them. 

The Marketing and Communications Specialist will support public messaging partnerships and other opportunities for public suicide prevention messaging and engagement, assist in creating branded materials, and represent the 988 Lifeline at conferences, events, and engagements with crisis centers and the public as necessary. The Marketing and Communications Specialist works closely with other communications team members and across other 988 Lifeline departments.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, enjoys keeping up with news and current trending topics, is skilled at research and is an excellent writer. The candidate will also have strong interpersonal skills, an ability to build interdepartmental relationships and be customer service oriented and collaborative. 


The Marketing and Communications Specialist is responsible for supporting the execution of marketing and communications plans and strategies for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. The Specialist will help create marketing and communications materials, resources, and initiatives in keeping with the 988 Lifeline’s messaging framework and goals, with a focus on raising public awareness of the needs of crisis centers. The Specialist will support communications projects from start to finish and will coordinate with public partners, other organizations, vendors, and other departments as needed. 

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

⦁ Track metrics and create reports based on needs and goals.

⦁ Support the advancement and tracking of collaboration opportunities with organizations and businesses.  

⦁ Support the creation and distribution of marketing and communications messaging and materials in support of the 988 Lifeline’s goals, including written materials, visuals, social media messaging, toolkits, and more.

⦁ Foster relationships with partners, vendors, and other organizations to advance suicide prevention messaging and resources.

⦁ Help create marketing and communications materials and messaging to raise public awareness of the unique needs of crisis centers and how to support them.

⦁ Help facilitate 988 Lifeline communications and marketing projects from conception to completion.

⦁ Incorporate mental health and suicide prevention best practices and recommended messaging in resources, tools, and campaigns.

⦁ Coordinate activities with partners, vendors, and other programs and departments.

⦁ Represent the 988 Lifeline in engagements with crisis centers, partners, and the public as necessary.

⦁ Support the Communications team and carry out Communications tasks as needed. 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

⦁ Experience conceptualizing and creating public digital messaging campaigns and materials, with a focus on addressing sensitive, complex and timely subject matter

⦁ Experience working with partners and managing multi-partner projects

⦁ Strong creative skills, especially in writing and editorial. Video and graphic design experience a plus

⦁ Experience with digital platforms, including website CMS and e-newsletters

⦁ Detail oriented   

⦁ Superb writing skills, including proofing and editorial 

Required Qualifications: 

⦁ Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, journalism, media studies, communications or a related field

⦁ 2-4 years of professional work experience in a marketing and communications department of a complex organization; editorial and/or public relations experience in a nonprofit mental health, health, or human services organization a plus

⦁ Track record of implementing and facilitating projects from conception to completion

⦁ Ability to meet deadlines and anticipate future needs

⦁ Experience creating reports and tracking metrics

⦁ Flexibility and occasional availability on evenings and weekends for organizational needs

⦁ Some travel required 

⦁ Fluency in the Spanish language is desired but not required


Physical Requirements: 

⦁ Ability to travel occasionally and be present at conferences a handful of times a year
