Title: Manager, Business Development

Department: Program Delivery

Location: Remote, travel up to 10%

Role Status: Exempt; Full-time

New Teacher Center (NTC) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to disrupting the predictability of educational inequities for BIPOC students, multilingual learners, students experiencing poverty, and immigrant students by accelerating educator effectiveness. Since our founding in 1998, NTC has rigorously worked with educators and facilitators at all levels of a system to center students’ needs to transform professional learning and equip educators with the tools to disrupt inequitable education practices. Your Impact:

The Manager, Business Development will engage in various revenue-generating activities including grant and proposal writing, prospect and funder research, communications, and project and campaign management all in support of the revenue-generation strategy for their assigned regions. This role supports specific geographical regions and works closely with the Senior Director and Directors in Program Delivery that support those regions.

This position provides an exciting opportunity for a strong project manager, writer, and collaborator who is ambitious, analytical, and detail-oriented. The Manager, Business Development reports directly to the Director, Business Development and is part of the Program Delivery team.

What Will You Do:

The following is an overview of the duties and responsibilities assigned to this position. The employee may perform other duties as required.

Regional Revenue Generating Strategy

  • Lead the writing of grant and fee-for-service proposals for specific regions. This includes:
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders in Program Delivery and the Finance Business Operations team to manage the timely submissions of proposals
  • Writing content that successfully tells the story of NTC’s work and captures project outcomes, deliverables, and budgets that are compelling to potential partners and funders
  • Editing proposals to final to ensure clarity and conciseness in language
  • Aligning proposals to the revenue-generating strategy for specific regions
  • Support facilitation of internal regional revenue-generating meetings in collaboration with Director, Business Development
  • In collaboration with the Director of Business Development, identify and attend regional events for business development
  • Manage boilerplate language bank for grant and fee-for-service proposals, keeping it updated and sharing across internal teams
  • Proactively identify and research potential fundraising and fee-for-service opportunities, bringing analysis to the Director, Business Development, and other key internal stakeholders
  • Track progress towards regional fee-for-service and philanthropy goals and provide updates to NTC staff

Internal + External Stakeholder Engagement

  • Create collateral with the support of the Director, Marketing and Communications and direction of the Director, Business Development that includes but is not limited to the following: concept papers, one-page documents that summarize specific areas of work, pitch decks, talking points, case study content
  • Prepare key internal stakeholders for partner meetings that include conducting partner-related research, communicating findings clearly and concisely, and preparing talking points and agendas
  • Interact with NTC staff and funder representatives as required to complete proposals and continue cultivation efforts
  • Support partner and funder communications initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders on the management and creation of funder reports

People and Team

  • Participate in internal learning opportunities.
  • Support the Director, Business Development in building the revenue-generating capacity and culture of the organization–including the skills, knowledge, and abilities of internal stakeholders to engage with institutional and individual donors and with district- and state-level partners
  • Contribute to a thriving Program team and organization culture in a variety of ways such as engaging in team events and meetings and providing feedback to team members

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree a plus
  • 4-7 years of professional experience requiring external written communication, strong analytical skills, and leadership of complex, group-based projects with concrete deliverables; including 1-2 years of development and/or grant-writing experience
  • Ability to lead project management and manage up
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Adept at synthesizing info from a variety of sources into a compelling and persuasive narrative
  • Experience in written and verbal communications and collateral development and fluency in PowerPoint/Google Slides and Google Docs/Word/PDF
  • Quick study; self-reflective and strive for continuous improvement
  • Ability to create and refine a program/project budget in Microsoft Excel, and help design budget modifications and tradeoffs when necessary
  • Ability to multitask, especially in managing multiple proposals simultaneously; outstanding time-management skills
  • Moderate to strong proficiency in Salesforce or other CRM (preferred)
  • Strong proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, and particularly in MS Excel
  • Experience in the non-profit and K-12 education sectors is a strong plus

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and a clean driving record for at least the preceding 12 months
