Job Description

TITLE: Grants Writer


REPORTS TO: Vice President of Grants and Governmental Affairs

STATUS: Full-time, Salaried, Exempt


Reporting to the Vice President of Grants and working in close partnership with the external fundraising and development operations teams, this position will play a key role in securing revenue during a critical period of transformation at Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. This role will deliver compelling, high-quality grant proposals and reports that ensure BGCTM is able to raise funds from a diverse mix of corporations, foundations, individuals, and government sources. The position provides grant and report writing services so that relationship managers may devote the vast majority of their time to external cultivation and stewardship efforts.


Produce compelling proposals, grants, and reports

  • Conduct the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage compelling and timely proposals for foundations, corporations, individuals, and government entities.
  • Collaborate across the organization to gather and synthesize the information necessary to report a compelling set of outcomes to funders.
  • Partner with external fundraisers to understand funding requirements and expectations.
  • Write clear, concise, and compelling content for all proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry.

Project manage grant-related activities

  • Manage an existing grant and proposal intake system, with an emphasis on prioritizing and tracking submissions.
  • Work with program leaders to track data and outcomes related to grant submissions.
  • Refresh existing grant toolkits, including updating boilerplate language and attachment files.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Passion for the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Club.


  • After hire, will receive mandatory paid training, including Safety Skills, CPR/First Aid, etc.
  • After hire, will be registered with Boys and Girls Clubs of America.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • At least 2 years of previous grant writing experience required with a demonstrable track record of successful submissions-to-awards.
  • Experience working with foundations, corporations, and government sources of support is a plus.


  • Must be able to perform duties which require walking, talking, hearing, standing, sitting, and/or bending for long periods of time. May occasionally be required to kneel, run and/or climb.
  • Must be able to use hands and arms to enter data into the computer, use the telephone and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to perform surface and deep cleaning appropriately using potentially hazardous cleaners including bleach, as needed.
  • Must be able to lift, move manipulate and or hold objects up to 45 pounds. Objects that exceed the 45-pound weight limit require additional assistance when moving, lifting or manipulating.
