Job Description

GMHC seeks a full-time Grant Writer with experience writing successful grant proposals to government grantors, private foundations, and corporations for funding related to health and human services, racial and socio-economic justice, and human rights for LGBTQ, immigrant, and other marginalized populations. This position reports to the Senior Managing Director of Institutional Development & Strategy. Essential Job Functions: – Write funding proposals, grant reports, thank you letters, and other correspondence to foundations, corporate philanthropies, and government entities. – Determine funding needs, opportunities, and priorities, and facilitate program design and logic modeling with input from program and administrative staff. – Research funding prospects and provide senior staff with research and background materials to support fundraising efforts. – Work with Program, Finance, and Analytics & Evaluation staff to gather data and other information to support the composition of strong proposals, reports, and other Development Department products. – Input and maintain all grant-related information in GMHC’s Salesforce customer resource management database, including funder records, proposal entries, submission and reporting deadlines, and gift information. – Query reports and compile and update statistics and information to support the Institutional Development Salesforce dashboards. – Update and maintain records and files critical to grant applications, including agency budgets, IRS determination letters, audited financial statements, annual reports, linkage agreements, memoranda of understanding, approved boilerplate language, client demographic and program outcomes data, and related information. – Facilitate the approval and processing of corporate matching gifts and maintain matching gift portal credential database. Other Responsibilities: – Assist with and attend GMHC Development and other agency events as appropriate, including AIDS Walk New York, annual gala, the New York City Pride March, and others throughout the year. – Participate in agency-wide committees that focus on program design and improvement. – Participate in GMHC’s data-driven management process, which includes identifying key performance indicators to describe individual and department-level outcomes, supporting continuous quality improvement (CQI) projects, and engaging in an organizational culture of learning. Education and Certification: – Bachelor’s degree required – Master’s degree preferred. Special Skills and Knowledge: Strong candidate for this position can demonstrate the following: – Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills – Strong project management and personal time management skills, with attention to detail – Ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and work well under hard deadlines – Experience working with Salesforce – Ability to work as a team player with program and finance staff, as well as other Development team members – Intermediate-to-advanced level of skill with Microsoft Office Suite – Prior fundraising experience in a community-based agency. Familiarity with HIV and AIDS and related human and social service issues.
