Company Description

We are looking for an Engagement Editor to join us at the Daily Express for a maternity cover position.

We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

This role is for a maternity cover position and will initially be on a 1 year fixed term contract.

This role is home and hub based in our Canary Wharf Hub, we are therefore open to candidates based in and around London.

Job Description

What will the role involve?

In this role, you’ll craft and distribute newsletters tailored to our loyal audience’s interests. You’ll develop initiatives like poll creation to boost newsletter sign-ups and grow our subscriber base. Additionally, you’ll deliver news stories via direct messaging channels such as WhatsApp, focusing on increasing registered users through strategic engagement.

You’ll analyse performance metrics like subject lines, open rates, and click-through rates to refine newsletters and enhance their effectiveness. Collaboration is key, as you’ll provide cover for team members and offer training sessions for the newsroom when needed.

You’ll also support the distribution team with tasks including social media management and Echobox, and be available for weekend duties to maintain audience engagement.

Who are we looking for?

You will be someone who brings experience in content curation, ideally within newsletter creation, paired with strong reporting skills. A solid background in digital production and publishing will be crucial for success in this role.

An NCTJ qualification or its equivalent is essential, demonstrating your commitment to journalistic standards. A sound knowledge of media law is also required, ensuring all content meets legal guidelines. Importantly, we are looking for someone who is passionate for audience engagement and can bring enthusiasm and innovative ideas to effectively connect with our readers.
