What will the role involve?

  • Playing a pivotal role in the South West region, shaping the operations, processes and workflows around key distribution, customer and audience tools including newsletters, registrations and social media presence on all five titles
  • Working with Senior Editors, brand Editors and other senior colleagues to achieve consistent and sustainable growth in key metrics such as referrer traffic, registrations and secure audiences on all six titles in the region
  • Deputising for senior colleagues to run meetings and confidently present key data, guidance and learnings both locally and to other areas of the business
  • Working to ensure content is published that is accurate, in line with our titles’ brand values, engages readers and reaches as many people as possible as quickly as possible
  • Publishing content online, and ensuring Reach digital publishing standards are met at all times. This includes creating content as well as editing it, where required, and optimising existing content to drive registration opportunities and engagement tools
  • Work with and support colleagues in other areas of the business to share content and working practice opportunities, including presenting learnings and successes both locally and to other parts of the business
  • Ensure IPSO standards are met at all times, and every piece of content is legally sound
  • Be adaptable and flexible at all times, assisting other teams where required and working in antisocial early, late and weekend shifts where required
  • Help to mentor and develop reporters and content editors with distribution tools and platform coaching, acting as a role model and heading up change initiatives to support the group’s strategy and our employees
  • Though you won’t be directly managing a team, you will foster a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations and having in-the-moment performance discussions with brand editors where appropriate
  • Developing a culture of trust, where people are safe to speak up, clear on their role in the team’s success and empowered to be their best at work

Qualifications

Who are we looking for?

  • You are an NCTJ qualified (or time served equivalent) experienced journalist and editor
  • Strong communication skills, including written, face-to-face, presentation skills and the ability to cascade consistent messages for maximum impact
  • Excellent digital publishing, social media and video creation/editing skills
  • A strong understanding of our customer value strategy
  • The ability to support, inspire and delegate work to various team members and editors
