OVERVIEW

As the Digital News Editor, APAC, you will be at the core of the editorial team, responsible for breaking, assigning, editing and writing news stories throughout Asia’s business day. Your role will involve updating the CNBC.com website, coordinating with various teams and covering breaking news – all within tight deadlines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Deputy Managing Editor in leading and managing a team of journalists
  • Act as the hot-seat for CNBC.com, managing and updating site content with strong editorial judgment and knowledge of business and financial news
  • Craft breaking news headlines quickly and accurately for mobile notifications
  • Write breaking news stories with both speed and precision
  • Occasionally write stories on diverse topics, including financial markets, business trends, economics, and policy
  • Perform copy editing for CNBC.com, ensuring the highest quality and timely publication of stories, features, video descriptions and interactive content
  • Communicate effectively and promptly with CNBC teams across various countries and platforms, including TV, to ensure coordinated story coverage
  • Curate website content by selecting relevant stories from wires and partners
  • Produce and publish stories using the content management system
  • Delegate tasks to team members and coordinate production to keep the website consistently updated
  • Act as a deputy for senior editors and provide guidance to junior staff
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of CNBC’s digital content using analytics tools

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Extensive knowledge of CNBC’s content and subject material with a strong interest in financial markets, economics, technology, and politics
  • Ability to meticulously edit copy under tight deadlines, identifying and correcting errors and typos
  • Proven experience in updating websites, news editing or hot-seating at a wire service
  • Strong understanding of global financial markets and the interplay between different economies and markets
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and stay composed in a fast-paced news environment
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and across all departments and locations, ensuring the website operates smoothly and accurately
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, combined with strong research and succinct writing skills
  • Demonstrated self-starter, with the confidence to make quick decisions in a fast-paced news environment
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, especially X
  • Fluency in English language
  • Flexible and willing to occasionally work different shifts when required, which some starts very early in the morning or on weekends

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in a similar role
  • Familiarity with content management systems
  • Background in working for a leading wire service or business news organization
  • Experience in overseeing news coverage and making editorial decisions
