Job Description
OVERVIEW
CNBC Digital is looking to hire an Associate Editor on the APAC team, based in Singapore under a Fixed-Term Contract for 12 months. In this role, you will collaborate with CNBC’s digital team during Asia’s business day to assign, edit and write stories – all while meeting tight deadlines. You should have strong planning skills, some experience in mentoring junior reporters, and a desire to excel at curating the front page of a website while effectively communicating across teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Deputy Managing Editor in overseeing a diverse team of journalists
- Act as the hot-seat for CNBC.com, managing and updating site content with strong editorial judgment and knowledge of business and financial news
- Assign and edit stories relevant to the APAC region
- Organize workflow and maintain the editorial calendar
- Brainstorm and pitch compelling features ideas that align with CNBC’s editorial strategy
- Write breaking news headlines quickly for mobile notifications, ensuring both accuracy and an appropriate tone
- Write breaking news and analysis stories as needed
- Act as a copy editor for CNBC.com, ensuring that all stories, features, video descriptions, and interactive content meet the highest quality standards and are published promptly
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive knowledge of CNBC’s content and subject material, with a strong interest in financial markets, economics, technology and politics
- Strong understanding of global financial markets and the interplay between different economies and markets
- Proven experience in updating websites, news editing or hot-seating at a wire service
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and stay composed in a fast-paced news environment
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and across all departments and locations
- Excellent verbal communication skills, combined with strong research and succinct writing skills
- Demonstrated self-starter, with the confidence to make quick decisions in a fast-paced news environment
- Familiarity with social media platforms, especially X
- Fluency in English language
- Flexible and willing to occasionally work different shifts when required, which some starts very early in the morning or on weekends
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
- Minimum 2 years of editing experience in a fast-paced news environment or business news organization
- Familiarity with content management systems
- Experience in overseeing news coverage and making editorial decisions within a leading wire service or business news organization
