Job Description

We are a small but burgeoning media publisher company comprised of affiliate websites in food and coffee niches. We’re looking to expand our team to include a Content Editor to produce compelling digital content through the lens of semantic SEO techniques, meaning zero fluff content that provides unique value to readers yet is optimized for Google search engine. What We’re Looking For Native English speakers only 2+ years of editorial experience, ideally as an editor for a digital publication (extra points for experience in food & beverage digital publications!) Excellent writing, grammar, and editing/copy-editing skills along with conducting thorough fact and plagiarism-checks Experience working across teams to produce quality content Experience in managing and recruiting a team of freelance writers Ability to assign and manage multiple people and articles at once SEO writing and editing experience We’re looking for someone who can take ownership of this role, who thrives in leadership yet exemplifies a collaborative work style as well. An interest in topical taxonomy, though not a must, is certainly a plus as you’ll be tasked with focusing on entire topics and the interconnectedness of queries; from that vantage point, you will create editorial workflows. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who possesses an openness to be trained in semantic SEO practices. It’s not for the faint of heart. Your firm grasp of topical authority will serve as THE framework for all editorial responsibilities and strategies as you’ll learn to produce written content around topic clusters and not just keywords. This role is NOT for someone who tires of the same topics or stringent editorial procedure. Though we support your autonomy and independence, we won’t leave you in the dark on how to create said strategies and benchmarks. You will have access to tutorials and training in the most cutting-edge semantic content-based SEO, along with training and access to tools such as Ahrefs and SurferSEO, which will pack a punch in making you a powerhouse Editor. We believe in setting you up for success and providing you with the support needed to develop skills that will be valuable for you in this role and beyond. We want you to stay with us for the long haul! This is an exciting, dynamic role with amazing growth opportunities not to mention free artisanal coffee and meals if you live in the U.S.A. With the right fit, we are looking to convert this to a full-time/Executive Editor role ASAP. What You’ll Do In This Role This position is fully remote and requires 25 to 30 hours per week. You will manage a team of freelance writers across different countries and time zones in tandem with hiring, training, and managing new writers whom you’ll assign the following: Informational/deep-dive articles on food, coffee, diet, and culinary customs and trends Product reviews Roundup reviews Listicles & tables Comparison articles You will be responsible for providing writers with detailed feedback, mentoring them on how to write in an engaging yet technical way. Other editorial responsibilities include: Creating inhouse manuals for writers Structuring and maintaining the content calendar Topic ideation Creating content templates Assigning content briefs Proofreading, fact-checking, and plagiarism-checking Ensuring writers’ adherence to semantic SEO writing protocols Creating permalinks, post titles/H1s, SEO titles, and meta descriptions for website posts Meeting publishing deadlines Editing pages across websites on an as-needed basis Writing copy for social media (this will not be an immediate responsibility, but one you’ll grow into) You will collaborate with our semantic SEO team, taking their research on topical maps, clusters, and hierarchies for our websites and creating editorial workflows from them. Finally, you will be working with the website content uploader to ensure all work is polished and optimized, with images, before publishing. We love to operate and communicate asynchronously. That being said, for the first month, we request that you are available for 4 consecutive hours anytime between 10 am to 5 pm USA EST for training and collaboration purposes. Thereafter, you will have the flexibility to create your own daily schedule while maintaining an overlap of at least two hours for ideation and discussions with the website owner/Head of Content, to who you’ll report. We look forward to hearing from you and creating a role for you to grow and flourish in. Coffee cheers!
