Job Description

The Content Specialist (Writing) shall serve in the Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) within the Student Access and Retention Center (SARC) as the learning facilitator for all initiatives related to student academic success in writing and shall work with other OASIS staff for the efficient and productive operation of the OASIS. Essential duties include: Provide leadership for writing education in the SARC and assume full responsibility for facilitating student academic success in reading. Participate in a variety of initiatives to accommodate programs and experiences relative to student academic success in writing. Provide leadership and direction for all reading support functions. Teach Undergraduate Success Seminar (USS 1000) course each semester. Be an active participant in the professional reading community of the university, Ohio and nationally. Contribute to the completion and submission of all required forms and reports required to meet procedures and timelines established by all relevant university administrative units. Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the OASIS Coordinator. Minimum Qualifications: An earned master’s degree in English/Language Arts education or other appropriate area from an accredited educational institution or hold a Reading Endorsement for the Ohio Department of Education. Experience in presenting educational training programs with a demonstrated knowledge and practice of Language Arts or Writing. Possess the appropriate professional demeanor necessary for working with stakeholders within and outside the university community. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a collaborative leadership environment. Pedagogical expertise in adolescent and young adult writing education. Experience working in a High School or collegiate environment. Three to five years of teaching/leadership experience in an academic support services environment. Knowledge or reading assessments and programs. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule. Preferred Qualifications: A Writing Specialist Credential or Certificate. Demonstrated competence in working with data systems such as D2L, Banner, Navigate & Upswing. Demonstrated knowledge of and strong commitment to the mission and operation of Central State University and SARC.
