Position Overview
We are recruiting an Associate Sub-editor for our Editorial team to support the growth of Forum and Community content products. This role is based in Shanghai.
Forum is a world-leading archive of high-quality expert interviews, providing the global investment community with independent market expertise and critical knowledge to make smarter and faster decisions.
Our Sector Analysts conduct in-depth Interviews with senior executives and industry specialists to unearth critical insights and generate unfiltered transcripts. Our 200-strong industry-aligned Forum team covers over 10,000 public and private companies, applying data-driven factor models to acquire the knowledge and perspective that our clients care about. Our library of over 30,000 Interview transcripts is continually strengthened by the generation of approximately 8,500 transcripts per year.
Community generates investor-led content by connecting our clients to high-quality quality and relevant experts, offering clients unique insights into companies, markets and investor sentiment.
The Associate Sub-editor contributes to pre-interview preparations, collaborating with Sector Analysts on Interview agendas and marketing materials, and post-interview content production by liaising with our third-party transcription and translation providers.
The Associate Sub-editor is responsible for proofreading and editing Mandarin transcripts and English translations to ensure we deliver high-quality editorial content to our institutional investment clients, and provide feedback to the language service vendors for continuous improvement. The Associate Sub-editor also assists in the assessment of internal Style Guide and process updates, as well as vendor quality evaluations.
We expect our candidates to have a high level of cultural sensitivity and proficiency in Chinese-English translation to join our dynamic and entrepreneurial team, which includes Sub-editors from high-profile schools such as Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation (GIIT) of Shanghai International Studies University and Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation (GSTI) of Beijing Foreign Studies University.
Responsibilities
Proofreading and editing transcripts of Interviews conducted in Mandarin, ensuring consistent adherence to Third Bridge’s Style Guide, readability, accuracy and translatability; detect inconsistent audio-to-text transcription, and correct transcription errors via research and cross-check
Proofreading and editing English translations of Interviews conducted in Mandarin, ensuring consistent adherence to Third Bridge’s Style Guide, readability and accuracy; deliver high-quality proofreading work in grammar, formatting, word choice, syntax and appropriate tones
Writing and editing Interview marketing materials in Mandarin, and translating them into English
Turning around high-quality content to strict daily deadlines
Working closely with internal stakeholders to resolve content-related issues with relevant stakeholders, including Interviewers (Sector Analysts), Compliance and Operations teams, to ensure all content is of the highest standard
Managing our third-party transcription and translation partner relationship, supervising project delivery and turnaround
Turning around high-quality content to strict daily deadlines
Researching and communicating with internal stakeholders to confirm accuracy of important information, proactively communicating with Sub-editing peers in Shanghai, London, New York and Mumbai
Escalating transcription errors and Style Guide misalignments
Qualifications
A successful candidate will…
Have exceptional English and Mandarin spelling, grammar and punctuation skills
Have knowledge of translation best practices and of the place for AI in translation processes
Have a meticulous eye for detail, with outstanding research and proofreading skills
Have an understanding of machine learning and natural language processing principles underlying AI translation
Be familiar with different AI translation systems, with an ability to critically evaluate AI-generated translations
Be a self-starter who delivers results independently and can prioritise effectively
Be a strong communicator who can resolve issues promptly with internal and external stakeholders in written and verbal formats
Demonstrable interest in content that covers various sectors and financial markets
Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or above in language studies, journalism, business and finance, or other related fields
At least two years of proven work experience as editor, translator, proofreader, copy writer or similar roles
Project experience and specialised knowledge in one or more of the below sectors:
Consumer and retail (e.g. e-commerce, apparel and textile, foods and beverages, cosmetics and other consumer goods)
Tech, media and telecommunications
Industrials, manufacturing and energy (e.g. semiconductors, automobiles and robotics)
Healthcare
