Company Description
We are looking for a highly experienced Associate Editor to join us at Express Online. This is a fantastic opportunity to oversee the day to day running of the Express team’s seven-day operation that keeps millions informed and engaged, while assisting in the creation of a visionary strategy for exponential growth.
You will be one of the key decision makers for this iconic news title, overseeing everything from the forward planning of high quality content to curating new ways for the Express brand to reach new audiences.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.
This role is home and hub based linked to our London Hub, with an expectation to work from the Hub 3 days per week. Therefore, you must be based in or around London to be considered.
Job Description
What will the role involve?
You will deputise for the Editor in Chief or Deputy Editor in Chief as needed, steering operations and representing the esteemed Express brand in senior editorial meetings. You will oversee all multimedia content and collaborate with departments to create a dynamic website teeming with personality and attitude. You will manage forward planning and distribute our engaging content across multiple platforms, driving impactful Express campaigns and promoting the brand with enthusiasm.
You will create and implement editorial strategies with precision, ensuring you and your team meet targets. You will nurture existing talent, and play a key role in recruiting new team members, fostering an open and inclusive culture. Leading daily conferences, you’ll work alongside the Express senior leadership on innovative strategies and projects, ensuring all content is legally sound and IPSO-compliant. This role will involve some weekend and evening shift patterns so a flexible approach is required.

You are a senior qualified journalist with a proven track record of creating and editing high quality content within similar national or major regional titles. You have a natural ease in managing staff within a dynamic and high-pressure environment, adapting seamlessly to change.
Your open and flexible approach allows you to quickly learn new skills, which you can effectively impart to others, fostering a culture of continuous development. Most importantly, you have a passion for breaking stories and presenting them in a manner that highlights the unique essence of the Express brand.
