About Writer
A travel editor, brand copywriter and features journalist with nearly two decades of experience, I have written for a wide array of publications and audiences—from mainstream travel guides to in-depth reports on child poverty for the Scottish government. My work spans both the private and public sectors, with bylines in the i, Daily Mail, New Zealand Herald, The Scotsman, and multiple in-flight magazines.
I have a proven track record of not just writing, but also building successful editorial ventures:
► As the founder of JPIMedia’s e-commerce vertical, Recommended, I commissioned, edited, and published product reviews across a portfolio of 160 UK regional titles. In this role, I managed a team and budget, ultimately growing the vertical’s revenue 500% Y-o-Y.
► As inaugural Travel Editor for NationalWorld, I established the travel desk, developed our content strategy based on a robust understanding of SEO, commissioned and coached young journalists, and wrote the popular weekly column, ‘In Praise Of…’, celebrating unique aspects of travel.
► I’ve developed and written successful Commercial Content campaigns for high-profile brands including British Airways, Visit Scotland, Scottish Government, EasyJet, Visit Norway, ASDA and many more.
My first love, though, and the cornerstone of my career, is storytelling. I’m fascinated by great narratives. My first Master’s was in film writing; I entered into journalism as an arts correspondent. I spent years covering the Edinburgh Fringe, Film, and International Festivals. I idolise music and film out of all proportion, and genuinely believe all good writing has a strong story at heart. (NB: I will happily talk to you about Heat, Rushmore, or the Before Trilogy for as long as you can stand it.)
